ZipCar USA/Canada/London

This is one of my favorite ideas ever. Rent a car for an hour, a day, or a weekend. Pay an annual fee (I can waive for you via a referral) and get your gas, insurance and 180 miles a day covered. They have cars that range from a Toyota Prius to a Mini Cooper to a Honda Element. Take a test drive. Imagine the world with a million fewer cars.

Madrid, Spain

If you only have eight hours in Madrid, you must spend one indulging on chocolate and churros at Chocolatería San Ginés. The rest of the time can be spent walking off the decadence. Madrid has excellent public transportation and there is no shortage of monuments, churches, parks, or museums.

Favorites: Museo del Prado and its contemporary ally, Museo de Arte Reina Sofía

End the day with live music, paella, and sangría. ¡Buen provecho!
